Forum

We’ve put together a forum temporarily.  At the moment it is open to all and slightly sparse… :-)

It needs separate registration to post on until we have a fully integrated site.  You can browse it without registering however.

You can comment on this article by clicking the Comments link below (which oddly says “No comments” until someone does….) or on the forum itself.

What would you like to see?

Would anyone be interested in a series or day of equine science-related talks?  I’ve just listened to a very good speaker who works in equine parasitology.  Her group is working towards better diagnostic tests to help target worm treatment in horses and so prevent drug resistance - she’s up for a talk sometime.  Would there be some interest in this?

Would you prefer single lectures or an evening/day with a few?  We could include worms, grass sickness, a talk from an equine physiotherapist?

Let me know what you think and what you’d like to hear about!

BRC Starter Pack (and a name please)

…came through the letter box this morning - I am very willing to photocopy and send out copies or they are available by emailing rclubs.admin@bhs.org.uk

Basically for the first year, we apply for a Provisional Affiliation which costs £50 for the year. We may also have to pay Regional affiliation fees of from fifty pence to one pound a member. In the way of structure we need;

  • 15 adult members
  • a committee of at least a Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and two others
  • we must have had 2 committee meetings with available minutes
  • our own constitution (they have sent a sample one)
  • a planned AGM
  • a club bank account with a minimum balance of £100
  • access to facilities
  • a committee member must be prepared to attend Area Liason Committee meetings
  • all fees to be paid by Jan 1st

Fees do go up in the second year but are coverable by having say 20 full paying members.

So, we need volunteers! If there is something you enjoy doing, have experience of or want to have a go at please, please step up now! I would really appreciate a treasurer to step forward! Also any potential secretaries, Chairmans, Training & Education officers etc

There are opportunities for training with the BRC including Equitation exams, Horse Welfare Advisor schemes etc. I really think this could be a great opportunity to promote classical training from within-not only having competitions etc for ourselves.

The main stumbling block I feel, is that I am actually in an area seemingly quite well served by riding clubs-the BRC may not think we really need another around here. I may email with an outline of what we’d like to achieve with sub-brances and see what they say.

We really need a name. They want a club name that indicates an area and I think they like  ‘Riding Club’ to there as well!. We need a club name(s) that says what we are. I like the SCRC but it may be thought to be a bit close to the CRC-I have written to Lady Loch as we dont want to step on any toes! Its been suggested that we use the words ‘Group’ or ‘Equitation’ or even ‘Dressage’. There is already a Scottish Dressage Group.

So, suggestions please-I could compile a list and then do a poll on the forum :)

Becky Holden Clinic November 23rd & 24th

As some of you know, Becky Holden is holding an in-hand and longreining clinic in Fife this coming November. If you’ve never seen this before or thought longreining was only used for backing horses please go along-actually, go along anyway! Becky is someone I’d really like to organise more clinics for up here and I cant wait to go and watch.

Welcome to our site

Hello, and welcome to the Scottish Classical Riding Club.

This is a temporary placeholder site which we will be updating and giving its own domain to as soon as we can and as soon as we’ve decided on a name! :)

The idea of the club sprang from my wish to introduce some Iberian showing classes in Scotland. It seemed a natural progression to organise a riding club that promotes classical training as well. So far we have about 15 people who have expressed an interest in being involved and I’m hoping as plans progress we’ll get alot more! I have asked the BRC to send an information pack about affiliating a club to them. Bottom line is we need at least 12 adult (over 17 years of age) paying members (to cover affiliation fees), a venue to have equestrian events/lessons, a training plan and a Rules & Constitution.

Obviously Scotland is a large place and we’re not quite sure how that will be overcome. Either two seperate clubs or one club with sub-branches may be the way to go. Two or more branches/clubs could work closely together and hopefully attract more visiting clinicians with more business! However, its early days and its planned that we can all get together for a brainstorming session sometime in December. Perth seems like a natural choice but we are open to suggestions for venues! Once this site is fully operational, registered users will be able to leave comments, this could be used to organise car sharing for the meet up.

Its hoped that the club will generate funds to subsidise clinics via regular competitions and other events. It would be great to see regular unridden activities as well, lecture/demos, stud visits, talks on different disciplines, horse management etc etc Please if you have any ideas or if there is anything you’d like to see please email and let us know!

One idea I thought might work is a ‘Library’. Often DVDs/books are hard to find or just a bit pricey! The Library would exist as a sort of message board whereby members could borrow or exchange books etc

what have we done so far?

  • found outdoor and indoor venues near Edinburgh
  • contacted the BRC for affiliation details
  • written to all of the CRC judges in the area to guage interest
  • written to all of the Iberian studs and owners I can think of!
  • probable venues in Inverness & a very keen Northern contingent!

If interested in any of the above or if you have any suggestions-please email us at scrc@equinephotographic.co.uk

or register using the button on the right hand side of the page. If you register with an email address you will be updated on any significant developments. Please leave any comments below as well if you wish.
